Cannabis Wins Big During 2020 Elections
The California cannabis industry had quite a successful day at the voting booth in 2020. In addition to five states passing cannabis legalization measures, 31 municipalities within the State of California approved cannabis measures during this year’s elections. While a number of the ballots that passed are tax or advisory measures, regulatory regimes and licensing ordinances will commonly follow soon thereafter. Encouragingly, many municipalities are creating pathways for the issuance of new cannabis business licenses.
30 + CA Cannabis Ballot Measures Pass
Ultimately, the thirty-plus ballot measures that passed this year will lead to a flurry of new business and licensing opportunities for cannabis operators across the State. We expect to see new licenses issued across the vertical for retail, cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and testing labs.
With the acceptance of legal cannabis in numerous new cities and counties, California is turning a corner and greatly expanding the marketplace. While the majority of California municipalities still do not allow commercial cannabis activities, the passage of these ballot measures and the recent trend of approval towards the regulation of cannabis are quite promising for The Golden State.
